Today my completely new life starts
I have retired after working for almost fifty years. Now I can do what I want when I want to. It feels like a big privilege. I liked my work, but after forty years in the same business it began to feel as if everything was repeted in sligthly new forms. It began to feel a bit boring.
What shall I do first? That's a difficult thing to decide. There is so much I want to do, so I'll sit down and see what wants to come first. Maybe my knitting machine wants to work. It has been resting for almost ten years, and it feels very tempting to wake it up. I might start weaving again.
Systematic fiber studies are number one on my ranking list. To get a good start I have joined the Wool Breeds Challenge Contest in SpinDoctor's group on Ravelry.
Or I might go for a walk with Kasper. Or I might start growing chili and garlic and coriander, and beautiful pelargoniums.

LYS
I went to the LYS to buy a couple of balls for kneesocks for my daughter in law. How come I came home with 3.2 kg yarn? Yarn for a sweater for DH was not on the list at all :) He chose the yarn himself, the beautiful Opal Blätterwald, and ok, yes please buy it... I don't know when one kg Drops Fabel in slurpy red candy tones, some Opal Indigo and Rosenbeet, solid Fabel, two hundred grams Silke-Tweed found there way into the basket. The lady in the shop dropped down 0.5 kg Novita Wool in one of my bags for free, just in case I would get ill due to a sudden lack of yarn. I remembered to buy the sock yarn too.
Garnaffären ligger "mitt i Finland" = "mitt ute i ingenstans".
This LYS is situated "in the middle of Finland" = "out in the middle of nowhere". You drive and drive and there it is. The netshop is here: Lankatalo Tapion Kauppa There are more the rooms and walls in the shop in than you can see in my pictures, by the way. Friendly service, and the yarns are easily viewed. The netshop is updated continually. There is a small photo studio for the yarn pics, and a room for knit cafes.
Now I know why rich people are so skinny. It's laborious work to shop. I'm exhausted. Better sit down and knit.

While I'm sitting here knitting fun socks things happen downstairs: my husband and his son are putting together two new closets. Very soon there will be shelves for my fiber and yarn stash instead of clothes and bed linen on the wall of my studio. And I will have new wallpaper, and I will paint the ceiling, have a couple of shelves for my craft books and magazines. I won't do very much about the floor. The room was used for woodwork in the winters before we moved in, and I like the thought that the room has been used for crafts. They kept grain here to. I can still find barley on the floor when I vacuum clean.

Double Fun Heel, Oh Yeah! = Triple Fun
Doubleknitting a two-color intarsia in the round is faster than knitting the usual way once you get used to it. Intarsia in the round is boring if you have to turn the knitting every second row and knit from the wrong side . But I can't read books and doubleknit at the same time, so I have to listen to audio books. That's nice if you like the way and voice of the reader. If not, it's a pest.
I have reached and conquered the critical point: the heel. I have knitted a couple of different short row heels earlier, especially on my knitting machine, so I thought I'd manage this one too. I'm not particularly good at maths, so I used eyesight when deciding how many stitches I needed for the heel vs the instep. I like a deep heel, so I took a few more stitches for the heel. On Ravelry I write down what I'm doing, because I want another sock in the same size :)
Leena would have helped me if I'd got lost. She's a teacher, she knows how to lead lost knitters back on the trail. "Remember to tighten the stitches" she advised me on Ravelry, so I tightened, and tightened, and this fantastic yarn didn't break. Cascade Heather. And look, it's a heel!
